Wolf Mexican gray wolves, native to Texas, Southern New Mexico, South Eastern Arizona & Mexico, are highly intelligent, social animals that usually live in packs of five or six individuals. As of January 2008, there were 52 Mexican gray wolves in the wild, including three breeding pairs. All those wolves, about three quarters of them wild-born, now stem from a program to reintroduce the Mexican wolf to the wild that began in March 1998.
