The fastest sprinters in the animal kingdom, cheetahs can cover 65 yards in two seconds (the equivalent of 60 mph) but this speed can be sustained for only 200-300 yards. A very flexible backbone permits enormous bounding leaps when running, while wide nostrils and a deep chest further facilitate these great speeds. Did you know that the cheetah is the only cat that possesses a number of dog-like characteristics?
