Elephant

The African elephant is the largest living land mammal. A full-grown male can eat up to 600 lbs of grass and leaves daily. The large ears of an elephant act as thermal windows to help regulate its core body temperature. The elephant fans its ears and cools the rich supply of blood flowing through them. The cooled blood is then circulated throughout its body. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo supports theTarangire Elephant Project in Tanzania and the Wildlife Conservation Society's elephant corridor project in the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier.
