Many companies donate products and services in lieu of or in addition to cash in order to benefit the Cleveland Zoological Society's and Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's wildlife conservation mission. Recent gifts include outdoor air conditioning units from Movin Cool / Fire & Ice to help our snow leopards and red pandas stay cool in the summer; a CT Scanner from Philips Medical Systems (making us the first Zoo to have this capacity!) and thousands of gallons of paint from ICI Paints for the new Zoo hospital; club seats and vacation homes for the ZippityZooDoo Silent Auction; original sculptures; play equipment from Playgound World; airline tickets; printing and design; and much more!
The Zoo Society welcomes inquiries from businesses that wish to help the Zoo in several priority areas:
Hospital Equipment Center for Zoological Medicine
Animal Care
Education & Visitor Services
Service Vehicles
Works of Art
If an item is not on the list provided but you think it might be a good fit for us, please contact GiftsInKind@ClevelandZooSociety.org. In general, we are seeking high-quality, new or gently used equipment. We are unable to accept used automobiles, clothing or food.
Gift-in-Kind Policy
Gifts-in-kind of equipment and materials contribute to our mission and are much appreciated. In preparation for making an in-kind gift, please provide detailed information on the item or items to be donated, including quantity, maker, date of manufacture, condition, and whether it needs space, additional support, and material or service to operate. We encourage donors to consider, for their own interest, obtaining an appraisal of their gifts for income tax purposes, especially for gifts that may have a fair market value in excess of $5,000. Such appraisals, which are the responsibility of the donor, should be made if possible before the gifts are transferred to the Cleveland Zoological Society in order to establish their fair market value.
Before in-kind gifts are accepted, the Cleveland Zoological Society and Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will work with the donor to determine costs (if any) associated with accepting the gift and the donor's stipulations or limitations for using the gift. We reserve the right to review all gifts before acceptance, and to decline gifts that do not advance our mission. If gifts are accepted, it is understood that upon receipt the Cleveland Zoological Society becomes the owner of the gift and as such reserves the right to determine its retention, location, treatment and other considerations relating to its use, maintenance or removal.
The Zoological Society acknowledges all gifts it receives. Formal acknowledgments are mailed to the donor for each gift. These describe the donated equipment or material and confirm the date of its receipt. No acknowledgment of the fair market value of the gift can be provided.
If you have questions, please contact the Development Office or GiftsInKind@ClevelandZooSociety.org.
