Accounting Coordinator (Full-Time)

Job Description
The Accounting Coordinator will perform routine accounting functions, including maintaining data integrity, data entry, compiling various reports, and maintaining compliance with external vendors to support priority initiatives of the Cleveland Zoological Society (CZS). This position will work closely with the Director of Finance to realize efficiencies and financial integrity within the organization. The Accounting Coordinator reports to the Director of Finance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages accounts payable and accounts receivable; enters and verifies invoice data; prepares vendors disbursements
  • Ensures all expenses are allocated to the correct expense category and aligns with the organizational budget
  • Allocates deposits to the correct revenue categories and reconciles to the donor database
  • Manages the biweekly payroll process; works as a liaison with payroll vendor in administration of or changes to employee pay, taxes, benefit payments
  • Serves as link between donor database and financial database with regards to reports, pledge and proposal entries, payments and schedules, and other duties as assigned
  • Maintains restricted fund balances and prepares regular reports for Director of Finance to review
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations and financial statements for review
  • Works as a liaison with HR vendors to assist with the administration of employee benefits
  • Assists the Director of Finance with the preparation of the audit and 990, as well as the annual operational budget
  • Ensures all personnel and accounting policies and procedures are documented and adhered to; and reviewed annually with the Director of Finance
  • Completing special projects for the Director of Finance as assigned
  • Assists in accurately maintaining accounting files and with general administration activities

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Five (5+) years of experience, Preferred Associate degree in accounting or bookkeeping certificate
  • Non-profit experience or interest preferred
  • Thorough working knowledge of bookkeeping maximizing accounting software system
  • High proficiency with data entry, Microsoft Office, databases, and payroll systems; experience with Blackbaud products a plus
  • Self-starter and highly motivated with demonstrated ability to coordinate and follow assignments through to completion
  • Ability to work as a team player as well as work independently
  • Extremely detail-oriented and resourceful; must produce polished and highly accurate work
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with attention to detail, i.e., accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to display good judgment and complete discretion in handling confidential information
  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the Cleveland Zoological Society

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily on-site, in an office setting located at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. There is an opportunity to work from home one (1) day a week.

Physical Requirements
Regularly sits at a desk or workstation.

Supervision Received
This position reports to the Director of Finance. There will be regular touch base meetings to review the status of the work and objectives outlined to meet the needed deadlines.
