Zoo Society earns coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator
For the second year in a row, the Cleveland Zoological Society has been awarded a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. The rating reflects the Zoo Society’s strong financial health and high commitment to accountability and transparency.
As the nonprofit partner and advocate of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the Zoo Society is committed to raising public awareness of the Zoo as a community priority; securing private philanthropic support for the Zoo and its programs; and giving members, visitors and donors great value for their investment.
“Donors want to make sure their gifts have an impact,” said Liz Fowler, Executive Director of the Cleveland Zoological Society. “Donating to a charity that is efficient and effective is a smart decision – it ensures the funds go to great cause and achieve optimal results."
Thanks to forward-thinking leadership and one of the best public/private partnerships in the nation, the Zoo generates $100 million annually in regional economic impact, is the largest provider of informal science education in Northeast Ohio, and serves as a global conservation resource committed to protecting endangered species. The Zoo also has Northeast Ohio’s largest membership program, run by the Zoo Society, with more than 40,000 households.
"For the Cleveland Zoo Society, gifts of all sizes help connect people with wildlife and enable the community to sustain and enjoy one of the best zoos in the country," said Fowler. "The Zoo Society is grateful to Charity Navigator for helping spotlight best practices.”
Charity Navigator, www.charitynavigator.org, is the largest charity evaluator in America and each year evaluates more than 8,000 charities; only 27% of them have received two consecutive 4-star ratings. To read the Zoo Society’s complete Charity Navigator rating, click here.
