Celebrate wildlife holidays with us
Our calendar of holidays at the Zoo looks a little different than the average calendar. We look forward to celebrating turtles in May, lions in August and slow lorises in October.
‘Holidays’ dedicated to threatened species, like World Giraffe Day, are more than just a fun way to show love to some of our favorite animals; they create the opportunity to support the protection of these species in a positive, festive way.
The wildlife holidays we celebrate correspond to our six key Future for Wildlife programs. They aim not only to honor the species of focus, but also to raise awareness of the threats it faces in the wild and inspire action to help protect it. So, what can you expect if you join us at one of our wildlife holiday celebrations? Each one is different, but crafts, educational activities and conservation action opportunities for all ages are common threads.
Listed below are the wildlife holidays on our calendar for this year. Keep an eye on our social media pages for updates on when these will be celebrated and how you can join in on the fun!
- May 23: World Turtle Day
- June 21: World Giraffe Day
- July 21: Andean Bear Day
- August 10: World Lion Day
- September 24: World Gorilla Day
- October 14-20: Slow Loris Outreach Week (or SLOW for short!)
We are constantly working to raise money and support these organizations. We wouldn’t be able to do it without your help; your gift can make a difference! Click here to make a donation today.
