Support a Species
Help us build and maintain a healthy Zoo.
Donate NowSupport a Species is a philanthropic program to build and maintain a healthy Zoo. Animal and veterinary care continues all year with the wonderful support from donors like you!
Throughout the year we will feature different species at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the health and well-being of these animals and how your support can impact the wonderful animal care here at the Zoo.
All donation amounts are accepted, and everyone will receive a PDF fact sheet and fillable certificate attached to their confirmation email.
Primate Forest, a 140,000-square-foot transformation and expansion of The RainForest, will incorporate state-of-the-art technology and the latest research on animal care and conservation to create a new home for some of the most endangered primate species including orangutans.
Bornean orangutans at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo are important ambassadors for their decreasing number of orangutans in the wild. Orangutan population numbers have decreased by more than 50% in just 15 years primarily due to the deforestation of their habitat for agricultural uses such as unsustainable palm oil plantations.
In partnership with the Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Programme in Malaysian Borneo, we are studying orangutans and their habitat in the Kinabatangan River forest, recreating forest corridors, and employing local people to address human-wildlife conflict and create opportunities for sustainable livelihood.
