Do you think the Zoo's flamingos fly south for the winter? Scroll down to find out if this is truth or tail!
Tail!
Here’s the truth: The Zoo’s flock of Chilean flamingos stay put and can actually be seen year-round. If the temperature is above freezing, the birds have access to their outdoor yard even in the winter. If the temperature is colder – or if the birds choose to stay inside – you can observe them in the building to the right of their outdoor yard in the Welcome Plaza.
Another truth: Flamingos are born greyish-brown. Their bright pink color comes from a diet of beta carotene, a pigment that’s found in algae, larvae and brine shrimp.
