Looking to make summer plans for your kids? Registration is now open for Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s Summer Day Camp. With 10 week-long sessions to choose from, there’s plenty of chances for your kids to spend time at the Zoo. Camp options are available for kids ages 5-14.

Keep reading for five reasons to send your kids to Summer Day Camp at the Zoo...

1. Learn about Zoo careers

Young teenagers attending Summer Day Camp explore the professional fields of animal care, education, research and more. This program gives campers a closer look at the real work involved with these exciting careers. Several current Zoo staff members learned about Zoo jobs as teenagers and now work at the Zoo. Your kid could be next!

2. Convenient for you (the parent)

With half day camp, full day camp, early drop-off and late pickup options available, busy parents don’t need to worry. Camp sessions have various themes throughout the summer so your child can attend multiple weeks while enjoying different experiences.

3. Special opportunities

Campers enjoy exclusive experiences during a week at camp. Meet animals during a get-close ambassador animal encounter, enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of an area of the Zoo and feed the giraffe!

4. Explore and learn how the modern zoo works

While exploring the Zoo, campers learn what we do and what they can do at home to help conserve the natural world. Campers also learn about why conservation is so important to the animals that live throughout the world.

Other camp sessions focus on:

  • Enrichment: Campers learn what enrichment is, and how the Zoo provides mental stimulation to the animals in its collection.
  • Wildlife biology: This program allows older campers to explore the Zoo while learning about the importance of observation and exploration as it relates to biology, conservation and field work.

5. Make new friends

Campers come from all over Northeast Ohio for Summer Day Camp, so it’s the perfect chance for your kids to forge new friendships!
